Complacency

Warm fire burning bright
Warm me up from the inside out
So cold on the inside
Dear fire, I am freezing

Nothing to say but silence
Keep my tongue silent and still
Keep my head down and do my work
Silence and compliance will get me through

Complacency is a real fear
Welcome to the reality
It has happened and not surprised
Burning shame leaves me frozen

Makes life better in some ways, really
Nothing to say, nothing to do
Put down my head and get to work
The fire is stifled and muted

How I long to burn bright
Instead I fade away beautifully
